Rio de Janeiro’s Carnival is one of Brazil’s most popular events, recognized worldwide for its grandeur and contagious energy. What are the themes or “enredos” of the samba schools in 2025
The themes of Rio de Janeiro’s Grupo Especial samba schools for Carnival 2025 have already been defined and promise memorable parades. The themes range from tributes to important figures in Brazilian culture to historical narratives and reflections on the future.
Check out each school’s theme:
- Unidos de Padre Miguel: The school will present the story of Iyá Nassô and the Terreiro da Casa Branca[4]. The theme is “Egbé Iyá Nassô”.
- Imperatriz Leopoldinense: Imperatriz will bring to the Marquês de Sapucaí the story preserved by the Itã that narrates Oxalá’s journey to the kingdom of Oyó to visit Xangô.
- Unidos do Viradouro: 2024 champion, Viradouro will present the theme “Arroboboi, Dangbé”.
- Estação Primeira de Mangueira: Mangueira has not yet released its theme for 2025.
- Unidos da Tijuca: The school will tell the story of Logunedé, the love story between Oxum and Oxossi.
- Beija-Flor: Beija-Flor will pay tribute to Luiz Fernando Ribeiro do Carmo, known as Laíla, the school’s former carnival director.

- Acadêmicos do Salgueiro: Salgueiro will take to the avenue an enredo about faith and protection, exploring rituals from different cultures. The theme is “Salgueiro de Corpo Fechado”.

- Unidos de Vila Isabel: Vila Isabel will present the theme “Quanto mais eu rezo, mais assombração aparece” (The more I pray, the more hauntings appear), exploring popular folklore’s ghost stories.
